FAIRBANKS, Alaska - There was a shakeup in the Valdez Fishing Derby Standings last week, which saw a new top overall fish crowned.
It all happened during week 10, which took place from July 22nd to the 28th.
The runner-up for the week was from right here in the Interior as North Pole's Timothy Shackman brought up a 185 pounder on July 23rd on the Bold Eagle.
That looked like it was going to be the top fish of the week until Patricia Johnson reeled in her flatfish on July 26th.
The Clovis California Native brought up a 285 pound Monster Halibut on the Harvester.
That fish gave her the top spot for Week 10, and the top overall spot in the Derby.
Valdez's Doug Cranor is now in second place with the 239 pounder he caught on June 23rd on the Redhead. Fairbanks' Russel Young is now in third place with the 226 pounder that he caught on the Dan Orion.
In the Silver Salmon Derby, Darlene Juve from Decorah Iowa is still in the top overall spot with the 14.98 pound silver that she caught on July 24th on the Orion.
Valdez's Barb Amunson is in second with a 13.08 pounder that she caught on the Chinook on July 31st, and just yesterday Bruce Doom from Romulus Michigan took the Bronze Medal spot with a 12.82 pounder.
He caught his Silver on the Vixen.
Both Derbies run through September 2nd.
The Top fish in both derbies will win $10,000. Second place will win 3,000, and third will take home 15 hundred.
