New UAF womens basketball coach looks forward to challenges and opportunities

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - We were able to reach Kerri Nakamoto, the New head coach for the University of Alaska's Women's Basketball Team, over the phone.
Nakamoto says that she took the job because of the opportunity it presents, and the new experiences that will come with it.
She spoke about the Recruiting aspect, which is something that is going to be very important for the Lady Nooks, who went 0-20 in Conference play last season.
The experienced recruiter has several pipelines set up in the Pacific states, and will mostly focus on Junior College players for a quick turnaround.
She also said that she is excited to meet her players and learn their skills, which the timing of her hire is going to slightly delay.
More than anything, Nakamoto is excited to make the program hers while taking it to a new level.
"The opportunity to do something different in a place that has so much to offer as far as the university and the area in a different way than I've experienced, was really attractive to me. And I think just building the program, I mean, I have the opportunity to kind of start completely from ground zero. That's nice and that's exciting," said Kerri Nakamoto.
