Nanook hockey falls in series opener to Lake Superior State

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Nooks have been back in town to continue their season for some time, and we've seen a couple matchups that signaled the turn of a "new leaf" for the team that personally got me quite excited.
However, last night's match was not one of them and saw our Nooks fall 4-1 against Lake Superior in their first of a two match series.
Kyle Marino was the man of the game, making the one goal right from the get-go. At 4 minutes and 50 seconds, Marino was assisted by Brennan Blaszczak (blaze-ack), and Sam Ruffin.
From that point forward, the net only saw plays from Lake Superior. The rest of the first was from a power-play made 10 minutes in by Diego Cuglietta, who followed up that point with another while the Nooks were on a power-play themselves.
The second saw no action at the net for either team, but did see the most power-play's activated by LSSU in a single period with two.
The third's stats alone tell a story of desperation as we head into the final minutes. Though LSSU obviously took two goals over the course of ten minutes, the third also showcased the most penalties made by the team with five and the majority coming from Collin Saccoman with three.
This concluded a match that brought LSSU up in standings to 5-5-1-0 in WCHA and 8-6-1 overall with our nook's WCHA score down to 4-6-1-1, and their overall suffering at 4-11-2.
They both meet face-to-face again tonight at the Carlson Center.
