FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Both of the Nanook Basketball teams were down in the lower 48 for tournament matchups to officially kick off their seasons.
We'll start with the women's team, who will start their season at 2-0.
They were in the San Francisco State Gator Invite where they started tourney play against the host school, defeating the Gators 68-65.
The Nooks responded from being outscored 21-13 in the first quarter, outscoring their opponents 17-14 and 21-11 in the next two frames to seal their first win under Head Coach Kerri Nakamoto.
Sabrina Ungaro led the Nooks with 19 points in Friday's win.
Saturday's victory was a 79-72 win over Holy Names.
Kylie Wallace was the scoring leader in that tournament finale with 22 points, becoming the first player on the team to break the 20 point barrier this season.
They will now travel to Anchorage to compete in the Seawolf Hoops Classic this Friday and Saturday.
The Nanook Men will start the year at 0-2 after dropping both of their games in the GNAC Pacwest Crossover, falling 69-67 to Chaminade University and 92-77 to Hawaii Pacific.
