Nanook Volleyball team secures first winning season since 2008

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanook Volleyball team was able to continue their historic season with a 5-set victory over the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks.
They don't get much more dramatic than this contest, which saw the Nooks fall in the first two sets, before rallying to win the next three and pull off the reverse-sweep.
They fell in the first set 25-17 and the second 25-21 before winning the third 25-20, the fourth 25-15, and then sealed the comeback with a 15-11 effort in the fifth set.
Three different Nanooks earned double-digit kills but Tatum Upchurch led the team in scoring with 16. Markie Miller finished the day with 15 kills while Lahra Weber earned 13.
Cate Whiting finished the day with 51 assists while she also shared the lead in digs along with Makena Overbey.
They both finished the day with 21.
Emily Moorhead finished with 8 blocks.
That win brings the Nanooks record up to 14-12 overall and 12-7 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
With only one game left in their schedule, the Nanooks have now officially secured the Volleyball team's first winning season since 2008.
The Nanooks will wrap up their season down in Ellensburg Washington with a contest against the Central Washington Wildcats.
