FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Men's Basketball team also suffered a close loss on Thursday night, despite holding the lead for the Majority of the Contest.
The Nooks fell to Concordia 87-84.
The Nanooks jumped out to a lead halfway through the first half and held it all the way until there were only 40 seconds left in the game when Concordia came back from an 18 point deficit to take a three point lead.
Alex Martin was then able to force overtime with a clutch three pointer.
Unfortunately for the home team, Concordia was able to win the scoring battle in OT, outscoring the Nooks 11-8 to secure the win.
Concordia shot 18 of 21 from the free throw line and also forced the Nanooks to commit 19 turnovers in their comeback effort.
The Nanooks did see a masterful performance from Alex Martin, who led the team with 22 points while shooting 6 of 8 from the field and 5 of 7 from behind the three point line.
Head Coach Greg Sparling spoke post-game about this loss and how his team moves forward.
"We probably should have won the game, but we did not. Take my hat off to Concordia there in the second half, they beat us in 50/50 balls, they made big plays. What the frustrating thing is that they didn't do anything different then we thought they were going to do. I have confidence in my staff and myself that we'll out-work whoever is coming in here. Now we've just got to execute the game plan," said Sparling.
Both Nanook Basketball teams will be at home again on Saturday.
Both will be looking to avenge losses with the women playing Simon Fraser at 1 and the men taking on Western Oregon at 3:15.
