FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanook Men's Basketball team unofficially opened their season last night with an exhibition contest against the Antelope Valley Pioneers.
The Nooks were able to leave the Patty Center with a 94-87 victory.
The Nooks held a slim 40-37 lead at halftime, but were able to outscore the Pioneers 54-50 in that second half to come out on top.
Junior Guard Spencer Sweet was Too Sweet in his debut for the Nanooks, leading the team in scoring with 22 points.
Big Man Michael Kluting was the top rebounder, finishing the day with 8 boards while also adding 15 points.
Senior Isaiah Easaw led the Nooks in assists with 7.
Though this was an exhibition contest, that 94 point performance shows solid work on offense for the Nanooks, especially since they only scored more than 90 points three times all of last season.
The Nanooks will now head to the tropics for the weekend.
They will be competing in the GNAC/Pacwest Crossover Tournament in Hawaii to officially open their season.
They take on Chaminade University on Friday at 3pm Alaska Time.
