Nanook Hockey team to open season at Arizona State

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanook Hockey team will be on the road this weekend.
They will be in Tempe Arizona for their season-opening series against the Arizona State Sun Devils.
This may be the first regular season action for the Nooks, but they have been able to get out on the ice on two occasions.
The first was the annual Blue and Gold Scrimmage where the team was split and they faced each other.
They then hosted the Simon Fraser Clan in an exhibition contest last weekend and were extremely impressive, defeating the Clan 13-1.
They showed no signs of off-season rust as ten of their players were able to score multiple points, led by Senior Team Captain Nikolas Koberstein, who finished with one goal and five assists.
The Sun Devils, on the other hand, have not had a game yet this season, but last year they finished at 8-21-5 overall.
The Nooks, who will be beginning their first year under Head Coach Erik Largen, will be looking to get their season started on the right note down in the desert.
"The guys are really excited about it. They're excited to get into non-conference action, to be able to play an NCAA opponent. It's the first time that we've been down to Tempe as a program. So that's a first for us. A lot of family will be there, and friends. But the big thing for us, as well, is focusing on the day-by-day, getting better and better, that's been our process and approach since we got here. Now hopefully we'll be able to put that into action against ASU," said Largen.
