Nanook Hockey team sweeps Ferris State, Hope and Thompson named WCHA Players of the week

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - For the first time in the 2018 season, it's time to break out the brooms for the Alaska Nanook hockey team.
They secured a sweep over Ferris State with a dominant 6-2 victory on Saturday.
The Nooks started out this contest hot, scoring three goals in the first period while holding the Bulldogs to one.
They then outscored Ferris State 3 goals to 1 over the next two periods to secure their first sweep of the season.
Each of the six goals were scored by different skaters, with Kyle Marino, Tristan Thomposon, and Steven Jandric finding the back of the net in the first period, Max Newton scoring the lone goal of the second, and Kylar Hope and Chad Staley lighting the lamp in the third.
The WCHA took notice of the great weekend play for two Nanooks in particular.
Kylar Hope was named the Conference's Forward of the week after finishing with a goal and three assists, tying the WCHA lead in points with 4.
He shared that tie with Tristan Thompson, who earned a goal and an assist in both games.
He was named the named the Conference defenseman of the week and was the second-highest scoring defenseman in all of NCAA hockey.
The pair of victories brought the Nanooks up to fifth place in the conference as they sit at 4-10-2 overall and 4-5-1-1 in WCHA play.
They host the Lake Superior State Lakers this weekend in another WCHA series.
