FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanooks looked to bounce back from their game one loss to Minnesota State.
The Nooks went into game two wanting to keep up with Mankato, and they came away with their most impressive victory of the season.
Alaska won 1-0 on Senior Night thanks to Troy Van Tetering scoring a goal late in the second period.
For the rest of the time, Anton Martinsson held off the Minnesota state onslaught facing 32 shots and getting the shutout over the nationally ranked Mavs.
This also included him facing two penalty kills in the third period.
The Nanooks said goodbye to their seniors in Jack Weiss, Nikolas Koberstein, Chad Staley and Ryker Leer.
The Nanooks spoke after the game about their last time hitting the ice at the Carlson Center.
"Well for me just to thank these four just in my first year transitioning to head coach through the support they've given me and given our staff and the work they've put in. You know they've mentioned all the guys in their class not making it through the four years, you know it's not an easy thing to do and the work they put in through every single day in the class room and on the ice the expectations that they have and all the other things. For them to be here it speaks to their character they're all four are great teammates, proud that they're Nanooks, proud that they'll be Nanooks for the rest of their lives and I'm just happy to be a part pf their lives and be able to coach them thank you guys and appreciate that,” said UAF Hockey Head Coach, Erik Largen.
