Nanook Hockey team earns big weekend sweep over Alabama Huntsville

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Alaska Nanook Hockey team asserted themselves in a battle for conference positioning over the weekend, sweeping the Alabama Huntsville Chargers.
The Nooks sealed the deal with a 5-2 victory on Saturday.
The visiting team drew first blood with a power-play goal from Tyler Cline 2 minutes into the first period.
Huntsville tied it up but the Nooks gave themselves the lead for good with three consecutive power-play goals all while holding Huntsville to one score.
This was a balanced effort with five different players accounting for the Nanook goals, with Cline, Tristan Thompson, Max Newton, Chad Staley, and Colton Leiter all finding the back of the net.
Thompson also finished with a pair of assists to finish the game with three points.
The Junior Defenseman earned some conference-wide recognition and was named the WCHA's Defensive Player of the week for his efforts.
These two teams came into the weekend tied for seventh place in the WCHA, but after the sweep, the Nooks now have sole possession of that spot.
They are now 8-16-2 overall and 8-11-1-1 in the conference and have won three of their last four games heading into their bye week.
