The Monroe Catholic Rams pulled off one of the most impressive feats in football. They won with only 10 players on the field.
“I was relieved just for it to be over.” said Head Coach Marcus Cogley after his team beat the Seahawks. “They were pretty excited. I couldn’t believe what had happened.”
Monroe won 44-38 over the Seward Seahawks despite finishing with only 10 players. Quarterback Jordan Higbee found Ryan Robinson for the game-winning touchdown. The Rams led the Seahawks 38-14 at halftime, but due to injuries they were down to 10 on the field midway through the third quarter. Garren Nicholson scored numerous times for the blue and gold until he was taken out of the game and put into the concussion protocol.
Monroe is playing with the bare minimum in terms of a roster, combined with some players from Healy and yet they got the first win of the 2019 season. Coach Cogley said he is also looking to add a couple of more players next week to help get their numbers back up.
Monroe now prepares for their first game of the season when they take on the Nikiski Bulldogs at the Big Dipper Field. Nikiski is coming off a 30-12 loss to the Redington Huskies.
