FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) We are in the midst of the high school volleyball season, with conference tournaments approaching in three weeks. On Tuesday, the Lathrop Malemutes and the Monroe Catholic Rams both picked up big conference victories.
Starting with an Aurora Conference matchup between the Rams and the host Eielson Ravens. After dropping the first set, the Rams rattled off three straight win, taking the victory in four sets. Tia Campanelli recorded a triple-double for the Rams, collecting 30 assists, 15 digs and 10 assists, while Chloe Maynard racked up 20 kills and 10 blocks. Trinity Eliasen had 21 assists and 12 digs for the Ravens, while McKenna Hopper contributed a team-high 12 kills. The Rams (7-5, 6-2 Aurora) prepare for the Lady Grizzlies Tournament in Anchorage this weekend, where they are one of 20 teams competing.
Over at Lathrop, the Malemutes took down the North Pole Patriots in five sets in a Mid Alaska Conference battle. Harmony La'apui helped Lathrop rally from a 2-1 deficit with 21 kills, while TT Tagovailoa added 18. North Pole was led by Ainsley Smith's 24 assists, while Madyson Conley had 14 kills. Lathrop's Juliana Mondelli spoke about how important this victory was to the team.
"Right now we are feeling pretty good because this was our biggest game I think," Mondelli said. "After coming off our win at West Valley, then just working as a team, going through injuries and just working together to come through and beat that team we have always wanted to beat and coming out on top is just amazing."
Lathrop will visit West Valley on 10/10 for some more MAC action.
