FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The State Volleyball Championships are officially underway down in Anchorage.
In the 3A Bracket, the Monroe Catholic Rams were able to advance with a victory over the Nome-Beltz Nanooks.
The Rams took this matchup in four sets.
They jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 25-17 and the second 25-22.
Nome avoided the sweep with a 25-22 win of their own in the third set, but The Rams were able to finish them off with a 26-24 win in the fourth.
Madeline Muromoto was named the player of the game for her efforts in this matchup.
The win allowed the Rams to advance to the next round in the winner's bracket against the Grace Christian Grizzlies, who advanced with a sweep over the Mt. Edgecumbe Braves.
"We definitely didn't want to lose and we worked our hardest even in the worst times. We just came together, tried to calm down, and just move on and forget about our mistakes. We're trying to take this tournament one game at a time, one set at a time. So we're trying to stay as calm as possible and to get as far as we can go," said Pamela Noll, Monroe Catholic Volleyball.
