FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Monroe Catholic Rams continued to roll last night with a 3-set sweep over the Eielson Ravens.
They were dominant in the victory, preventing Eielson from breaking the 20 point barrier.
The Rams won the first set 25-19, the second 25-18, and then finished the Ravens off with a 25-12 effort in the third.
Chloe Maynard led the Rams in scoring with 12 kills, she also tied for the team lead in Aces with Abigail Allen, who both finished with two.
Maynard also helped lead the defensive effort with 4 blocks.
Marian Nelson led the team in digs with 14.
Jessica Eid led the ravens with 14 assists while Alyssa White passed out five assists.
The win brings the Rams up to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in Conference play, while Eielson fall to 2-2 overall.
The Rams, who have only lost to a 4A team this year, have defeated two thirds of the Mid Alaska Conference and are undefeated against 3A teams.
These conference wins, however, mean a little more to these players.
"Now that we're playing conference games I think it's an even bigger deal for us. Even though we started out kind of slow, playing conference games instead of just, bigger 4A schools, it means more to us. It's just the beginning of our season. I think we have a lot in front of us. There's potential definitely but we're going for the State Championship for sure," said Chloe Maynard, Monroe Catholic.
"We're doing so good this year. Last year was, I feel like a struggle, but this year we're doing so good. We come together after every point no matter if we win it or lose it and it's just been a really good year so far. I think, honestly, we just connect really well. There's no drama on the team on the court or off the court, which is really nice. And we know how to communicate well. When we are down we know we have to get back up and we help eachother up, which is nice. It's not just, like, one person helping everybody up," said Madlyn Leslie, Monroe Catholic.
These two teams won't have much time to relax.
Monroe will be in action tonight against Mt. Edgecumbe and Eielson will host the Barrow Whalers on Thursday.
