Monroe Catholic Softball team rallies to defeat Eielson

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Interior was the epicenter of some major Spring Sports action last night.
We'll start with softball, which had arguably the biggest Rally we've seen this year.
The Monroe Catholic Rams scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to secure a 14-13 victory.
The Rams were down 13-4 heading into the final frame.
And to make matters worse, Eielson knocked two batters out early on so that Monroe was on the brink of defeat for the entire sixth inning.
They slowly but surely chipped away at that lead until Marian Nelson hit this RBI triple to secure the walk-off victory.
Ivy Packee crossed home plate to score the game-winning run.
Casey Elterman also had a great day at the plate, finishing with five RBIs.
The Ravens were led by McKenzie Paul, who finished with 3 hits and five scores.
We talked to Nelson after her game-winning triple about how it felt stepping up to the plate with the game on the line.
"I love being under pressure when I'm hitting. I just knew I needed to take this first pitch because I'd been hitting first pitches all night and not doing well. So I took the first pitch and then, yeah. I think we started to relax like halfway through the game. It's going to be fine no matter what happens. I think that was most of it, was being relaxed and on top of their errors. That gave us more energy," said Nelson.
Also last night, the Hutchison Hawks defeated the Lathrop Malemutes in a non-conference contest.
The Hawks were victorious 16-6.
Up next for these two teams, Lathrop will be playing North Pole tomorrow at noon and Hutchison will be playing the Eielson Ravens tonight.
These games, like all softball games, will be held at the South Davis Softball Complex.
