Mid Alaska Conference Basketball Teams Open Their Season

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Weekend served as the season opener for High School Basketball all across Alaska, and our Interior Teams were in the thick of it all.
The first-ever West Valley Tip-Off Tournament came to a close on Saturday.
The Wolfpack Boys finished the Tourney by defeating the Chugiak Mustangs in a 53-50 Thriller.
Jesse Stickel led the pack with 16 points, while Dylan Erhart finished with 11.
The Wolfpack will start their season with a 2-1 record, their only loss of the season came a week ago when they were bested by the Defending State Champion Dimond Lynx 52-50.
They also took second place overall in the tournament, while Cornelius Mingo Jr. was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Lathrop Malemutes finished their stay in the Tourney with a 48-33 loss to the South Anchorage Wolverines.
The Malemutes were led by Chateau Reed and Andrew West, who each scored 8 points.
The Malemutes will be in action again tomorrow in their annual Silent Night game.
The crowd of fans, students, and parents will be totally silent until either team scores 10 points.
That's tomorrow at Lathrop High School against Delta Junction.
Our other Mid Alaska Conference representatives, the North Pole Patriots, were in action as well.
The Boys Travelled out to Delta to take on the Huskies, while the Girls hosted the Thunder Mountain Falcons.
The Boys fell to the Huskies 80-41.
Delta was led by Micah Helkenn, who led both teams with an incredible 29 points.
Sevohn Clarke led the Patriots with 11.
The North Pole Girls also suffered a loss, dropping a 49-45 contest to Thunder Mountain.
Both Patriot Teams will travel out to Eielson tomorrow to take on the Ravens.
Also, the West Valley Wolfpack girls were able to avenge their season-opening loss up in Utqiagvik.
They defeated the Barrow Whalers 48-37 on Saturday.
The Wolfpack are now done until the Clark Cochrine Tournament on December 27th in Ketchikan.
