FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The West Valley Basketball team was in action for the first time in 2019 last night with a home contest against the Thunder Mountain Falcons. Thunder Mountain was able to play the spoiler in this one, earning a 59-50 win over the Pack. West Valley actually held a 32-25 lead at halftime, but a big second half allowed a comeback victory for the Falcons. Thunder Mountain outscored the Pack 16-5 in the third quarter to help secure their win. Brady Carandang led the Falcons in scoring with 15 points while Vaipuna Toutaiolepo and Kamron Falls both dropped 12. The Wolfpack were led by a 16 point effort from Terrell Peter while they also saw Double-digit points from Ty Thomas and Koen Campbell, Thomas finishing with 11 and Campbell with 10. The Wolfpack will now get a chance to recollect before their next contest when they host the Chugiak Mustangs on Saturday at 12:30pm. Thunder Mountain will be staying here in the Interior for tournament action.
This weekend is going to be full of sports action here in the Interior. Starting tomorrow the Monroe Catholic Rams will be hosting their annual tournament, the Mt. McKinley Bank Holiday Classic. Both the Boys and Girls teams will be in action alongside the Lathrop Malemutes, Colony Knights the Thunder Mountain Boys, and Valdez Girls. The tournament will start tonight with Lathrop facing off against Colony, while the Monroe Girls take on Valdez, and the boys face Thunder Mountain. Friday will see the Colony Girls take on Valdez while the boys play Thunder Mountain. Our two interior teams will be the main event on Friday night with a double header between Monroe and Lathrop. The girls will play first at 6:20pm while the boys tip off at 8. And the final day of the Holiday Classic will see Valdez Take on the Lathrop girls while Thunder Mountain will play the Malemute boys. Monroe Catholic will square off against Colony in a double-header to close out this year's Holiday Classic.
Tonight we have two winners to announce for the KTVF Pro Football Challenge. First up we have our final weekly winner of the season, Robert Hoyt, who was able to correctly predict the winner in 15 out of the 16 games. Congratulations on that performance Robert.
