FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Goaltender Anton Martinsson was named to the 2018-2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's at-large team.
This award recognized the Nation's top student athletes, for both their academic and athletic performance.
They recognize athletes at four different levels, division 1 through 3 and NAIA.
Martinsson was one of ten at-large selections from District 8 at the Division 2 level since the University of Alaska only has one Division 1 team.
This is the first academic at-large honor for Martinsson, who will begin his senior season for the Nanooks in the fall.
The goaltender from Klippan Sweden has earned a 3.64 GPA while studying business administration.
He appeared in 25 games for the Nanooks last year, where he finished with a 7-15-2-2 record between the pipes.
He stopped 649 out of the 712 shots fired at him, good enough for a 91% save percentage.
The WCHA named him goaltender of the week back in November and was the conference's Goalie of the month in February.
He was the only Men's Hockey player in District 8, and was one of only four Division 1 Hockey players overall.
The At-Large district winners will now advance to the Academic All-America Ballot, which will announce their first, second, and third team members in June.
The final winner of the Weekly Poll is North Pole's Daniel Crutcher.
With the Monroe Catholic Rams holding a 2-1 lead, Crutcher stepped up for a free kick.
He took full advantage, sinking this shot to force a tie against their Mid Alaska Conference foes.
That was the closest a MAC team has come to defeating the Rams, who are undefeated in Conference play.
Now that we're done with another successful season of the I-5, let's take a look back at some of the best poll winners of the year.
