"Well what really drew me to Dixie was that the coach really put out and like really wanted me to come wrestle for him," said Matheny. "Some of the other coaches that I talked to, they didn't seem as excited to have me on their team, and he seemed like, he's like, you'd be a great asset, like, I would love to have you. He called and texted repeatedly, and that just made me feel like he wanted me there."

Matheny carved out a stellar career for the purple and gold, including deep runs in numerous tournaments. She won the 145 weight class for the Mid-Alaska Conference tournament, and grabbed fourth during the state championships. Matheny has seen the girls wrestling landscape change over her four years, and some of her peers have also signed onto college programs.

"It's awesome, especially because I was able to bring in some of these other girls to," said Matheny. "I know some of the girls on my team look up to me and it's nice to know that from other teams that I'm friends with are able to go off to college and I'll probably see them at some tournaments."

Metheny leaves a Lathrop program that represented well at the 2019 state championships, and as a team they took second.
