FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Majority of our Interior Football teams were playing on Saturday, but all were on the road.
We'll start with the afternoon time slot, which saw the North Pole Patriots take on the Kenai Central Kardinals.
The struggles continued for North Pole this season, who fell to Kenai 64-18.
A good portion of the scores for the Kardinals came from the Defensive side of the ball.
They picked off Junior Quarterback Chris Lovett five times and ran four of those back for six points.
The Patriots fell in to a 30-0 hole after the first quarter and were never able to get out of it.
Khoby Davis ran in two touchdowns for the Pats while Lovett ran in their third.
The loss drops the Patriots down to 0-4 to start off the year while Kenai improves to 2-2.
The Pats will be playing at home this Friday night when they open Railbelt Conference play against the Palmer Moose.
Another Interior team suffered a loss on Saturday Afternoon.
The Monroe Catholic Rams fell to the reigning Division 3 State Champion Barrow Whalers by a score of 25-7.
Anthony Fruean led the Whalers in scoring while the Rams received their lone score thanks to a pass from Trae Puryear to Jordan Higbee.
This was the first conference game for these two teams who are both 2-2 overall.
The Whalers, however, are 1-0 in Aurora Conference play while the Rams fall to 0-1.
The Lathrop Malemutes were the only interior team to leave the weekend with a victory, defeating Juneau on Saturday night in a dominant 40-13 effort.
Juan Mendez was the scoring leader for Lathrop, but the highlight may have been a 70 touchdown pass by senior receiver Michael Zadra.
The Malemutes are now 3-1 overall this year.
