FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The State Championship Playoffs begin this weekend for two of our Interior Football teams.
The Lathrop Malemutes and the Eielson Ravens were both able to win their conference and secure playoff berths.
The Railbelt Conference Champion Lathrop Malemutes will begin their playoff run on the road because all of the Division 2 playoff games are at Palmer High School.
The Malemutes finished their season at 6-2 overall and secured their playoff spot with a victory in the dog bowl.
They will take on the Eagle River Wolves, who were the runners-up in the Northern Lights Conference, finishing the year at 5-2 overall.
The winner of that matchup will take on the winner of the SoHi Palmer game in the D2 State Championship.
Our home playoff game will see the Aurora Conference Champion Eielson Ravens take on the Ketchikan Kings in their first round contest.
The Kings are coming to Buck Nustrom Field as the runners-up in the Peninsula Conference, they only lost one game this year to the Conference Champion Houston Hawks.
Eielson finished the Regular season at 6-1 with a perfect 3-0 conference record.
The winner of this game will advance to the D-3 State Championship, where they await the winner of the Houston and Barrow Contest.
Lathrop plays in Palmer on Saturday at 4pm, while Eielson hosts Ketchikan on Saturday at 1.
