Lathrop Soccer sweeps North Pole in season openers

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Last night soccer season got underway for two of our Interior teams, the Lathrop Malemutes and the North Pole Patriots.
Lathrop earned a sweep, starting with a 2-0 win in the girl's game. ​
After a scoreless first half, the Malemutes got one goal each from Tay Lee and Chloe Anderson. ​
Goalkeeper Juliana Mardelli secured the victory with a shutout. ​
The Boys game started soon after, which saw the Malemutes once again walk off the turf victorious, defeating North Pole 9-2. ​
The first half was all Lathrop, who were able to add six goals before the break. ​
North Pole started off extremely strong in the second half, scoring both of their goals but Lathrop then re-asserted themselves by finding the back of the net three more times before the game was over to secure the win. ​
Carter Mahler led the Malemutes in scoring, earning himself a hat-trick with three goals. ​
Graham Wappett added a pair of goals of his own while Jamison Gallion, Connor Musick, Zane Lucksavage, and Michael Richardson all added individual scores. ​
Next up for these two teams, North Pole will be going to Homer to play the Mariners tomorrow, and the Malemutes host Hutchison next Tuesday.
The next soccer action scheduled for thei FYSA Turf Fields will take place on Friday when the West Valley Boys host Eielson.
