Lathrop Invitational hosts Fairbanks' top runners

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Today was the Lathrop Invitational for cross country, and the rain from the last few nights made for some interesting conditions for this year's competitors.
The slippery, mud drenched paths in the 2 5km races, for the boys and girls teams, couldn't have been enough to stop any one of them. Teams from Monroe, West Valley, Galena, Eielson and of course Lathrop joined in a race that truly pushed their limits. Though we couldn't get any footage of the boy's race, Lucas Echenique of Galena and Eric Difolco of West Valley made the final push and tied at first with a time of 18 minutes and 9 seconds. Directly behind those two ran Baird Reynolds of Lathrop with a by-the-nose time of 18 minutes and 10 seconds, literally a second behind the first two. The first 13 finishers stayed within 10 seconds to each other leaving almost no gap.
Moving on to the girls teams, Kendall Kramer of West Valley took first at 19 minutes and 10 seconds, nearly a full minute ahead of Naomi Bailey, also of West Valley, who took second at 20 minutes and 48 seconds. Katie Bast of Monroe landed third 30 seconds behind Naomi with a time of 21 minutes and 18 seconds.
Congratulations to all of the runners. I hope that you all take a well-deserved rest.
