Interior athletes compete in State Track and Field Championships

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The State Track Championships were held over the weekend down in Palmer.
Several of our Interior Athletes were able to shine on the biggest stage. ​
In the team standings, Chugiak won the Division 1 Boys State title with 123 points while West Valley took second with 100 points. ​
On the girls side South Anchorage took the state title with 88 points. ​
The West Valley girls took fourth place in the state. ​
Individually, Camron Herron earned a first place finish for the Pack, winning the 800 meter. ​
Terrell Johnson brought home three state titles, winning the 300 meter hurdles, High Jump, and Long Jump. The Wolfpack boys also won the 4x200 and 400 meter relays. ​
In the girls events, Kendall Kramer repeated as the 1600 and 3200 meter state champion in the only top three finishes for the Wolfpack girls. ​
Kramer spoke after the races about how it felt to once again reign supreme in the distance races. ​​
"I'm really glad to keep Dan proud and keep diversity in my athletic accomplishments. It's not just skiing and cross country, I can also do track. And I'm proud of that," said Kramer.
In the Division 2 events, the top Interior performer was Delta Junction's Hailey Williams, who won the 100, 200, and 400 meter races. Other top three finishes for our interior athletes saw Katie Bast take third in the 3200 meter for the girls while on the boy's side, Landon Nicholson earned a third place finish in the 800 meter for Monroe Catholic while Garren Nicholson took third in the 110 meter hurdles. And for Eielson, Christian Bolton took third in the High Jump while Mason Johnson took the bronze in the shot put.
