Interior Legion teams swept in season openers

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Our Interior American Legion Teams held their first matchups of the year, each of them hosting the South Anchorage Post 4 squad.
South defeated the North Pole Post 30 Wild on Friday, and then took on the Fairbanks Post 11 49ers in a double-header on Saturday. ​
South Anchorage earned a sweep, starting with a 9-6 win in the opening game. ​
Out of their six runs, the Niners earned four in the bottom of the seventh inning. ​
Isaac Role secured the lone hit of the game for the Niners, while also crossing home plate twice. ​
The Wolverines then secured the sweep with a 10-7 victory in the closing game. ​
South never trailed in this contest and secured the win with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. ​
Shaun Conwell was the offensive leader for the Niners, earning three RBIs while Isaac Roehl, Gus Jensen, and Dylan Swarthout all scored twice. ​
Before the Wolverines went back to Anchorage, they had one more game against the Post 30 Wild, defeating their North Pole foes 7-4.​
South scored all their runs in the first five innings to secure the win. ​
Alex Kazense scored two runs to lead the Wild on offense. ​
Our two legion teams will be in action against each other on Tuesday night. ​
