Interior Fishermen hold spots in top overall and weekly standings in Valdez Halibut Derby

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - It's that time of the week again to check our leaderboard for the Valdez Fishing Derbies.
We'll start with the Halibut Derby, more specifically, the weekly winners of the Derby for week 9, which was July 15th through the 21st.
Second place for the week went to Todd Carsten from Valdez.
Carsten reeled in a 145.4 pounder on the Straydog on July 21st.
A few days earlier, Fairbanks' own William Howe brought up the top fish of the week with a 187 pounder, which he caught on July 19th on the Jaime Lynn.
Two interior fishermen hold spots in the top three overall standings.
North Pole's Tim Ingraham is in third with a 214 pound Halibut caught on the Jaime Lynn, and Russell Young from right here in Fairbanks is in second place with a 226 pounder which he caught on June 23rd on the Dan Orion.
The top Halibut belongs to Valdez's Doug Cranor, who caught a 239 pounder on the redhead.
The Silver Salmon Derby also started up this past weekend.
Two Valdez anglers hold spots in the top three.
Anne Bradshaw is in third with an 11.14 pounder and Lavonne Kennedy is in second with an 11.92 pounder, both of which were caught on July 21st.
Darlene Juve from Decorah Iowa is in first place with a 14.98 pound Silver Salmon.
Both derbies run through September 2nd and at the end of it all, the heaviest fish will receive a $10,000 cash grand prize.
Second place will win 3,000 and third will win 15 hundred.
