FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Fairbanks Ice Dogs split a tough series over the weekend with the Shreveport Mudbugs with a 2-1 loss on Saturday.
The Mudbugs scored the loan goals in the first and second periods to hold a 2-0 lead until midway through the final frame when Tanner Schacle scored what would end up being the only goal of the night for the Dogs.
The Mudbugs then held on for the 2-1 win.
Robert Blueger and Erkka Vanska assisted Schachle on his Power Play goal.
Logan Neaton started the game between the pipes for the Ice Dogs, stopping 15 of the 17 shots fired at him in his 58 minutes in goal.
The Dogs outshot the Mudbugs 28-17, but they just weren't able to find the back of the net.
After defeating the Mudbugs 4-2 on Friday night and then splitting the series on Saturday, the Ice Dogs are still holding down second place in the NAHL Midwest Division.
Their 8-4-2 record has them tied for second place with the 8-4-1-1 Minnesota Magicians with 18 points in the division standings.
The Dogs will be looking to secure their hold on second place when they travel down to Soldotna to face their lone In-state Rivals, the Kenai River Brown Bears, in a two game series this Friday and Saturday.
