FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Fairbanks Ice Dogs continued their Midwest Road Trip last night with a series opener against the Janesville Jets.
Janesville ended the Ice Dogs five-game winning streak with a 5-4 shootout victory.
The Dogs held a 2-1 lead after the first period, but Janesville took a one goal lead of their own in the second.
Fairbanks opened up the third period with two goals and looked like they were set to seal a tight victory, but the Jets tied it up with only 29 seconds left on the clock to force overtime.
Both teams were scoreless in that overtime period so we went to a shootout, where the Jets outscored the dogs 1-0.
Jack Vincent netted the game winner for Janesville while Jake Borgida, Brenden MacLaren, Johnny Sorenson, and Ty Proffitt all lit the lamp for the Ice Dogs.
The Dogs will have a chance to avenge that heartbreaker tonight for game two against Janesville.
