FAIRBANKS, Alaska - In what is going to be a very Winter Sports heavy list, it's time to take a look at the top plays of the week in the I-5.
"Starting off this week's list is Nanook Goaltender Gustavs Grigals, who secured his second victory in his second start between the pipes. Grigals faced 31 shots on Saturday and turned away 30 of them. The only time Huntsville was able to get by the Freshman from Latvia was on a 5-on-3 powerplay.
We're gonna stay on the Ice for the #4 play this week, where the Pack hosted the Dimond Lynx on Thursday night. The Pack may have been held to one goal but it was a Beauty. Trenton Spears breaks away and makes it a one on one situation with Dimond's goalie, who he promply shakes him up and dumps the puck right past him.
Heading to cross country skiing for play number 3, this one belongs to West Valley's Kendall Kramer who was dominant in the first Town Race Series of the year, finishing the 4K with an 11 minute, 23 second time. She was the fastest of all the female competitors, beating the next closest skier by over a minute.
Next up we have Monroe Catholic's Caleb Sanborn who collects the puck, takes some time to measure his shot and then snipes this one in to the top shelf, right by the goalie's head. This was part of an amazing comeback on Friday for Monroe, who were down 8-4 against Glennallen before rallying for a 10-9 victory.
And number one for this week belongs to Sophomore Forward Steven Jandric from the Nanook Hockey team. With both teams tied at one with just over a minute left in the game, Jandric smashes this one-timer right past the goalie to give the Nooks a 2-1 lead. They were then able to hang on for the remaining 70 seconds to secure their first home win of the season."
