FAIRBANKS, Alaska - First up we have the Nanook Men's Basketball team, who were in action against Western Oregon on Saturday. Nook Guard Spencer Sweet was locked in an Western's Darius Lubom and delivered this thunderous block to shut down the attempted lay-up. Sweet also led the team in points with 20.
Next up we have our first action from the Mt. McKinley Bank Holiday Classic, in the Championship contest, Lathrop's River Wiseman was able to find the wide-open Breezy McClain who drains a three pointer. This was one of the final nails in the coffin that allowed the Lathrop girls to breeze to a 58-28 victory in the championship game.
We head to the Carlson Center for play number three. This was in Saturday's match-up between the Alaska Nanooks and Northern Michigan. After a bit of a scrum in front of the goaltender, Troy Van Tetering was able to find the back of the net for the first goal of the night for either team, and the first goal of the weekend for the Nooks.
The #2 spot belongs to the Nanook Women's team in their contest against Western Washington on Thursday. This no-look pass from Sabrina Ungaro sets up a three-pointer from Angela Murnion which cut the Western lead down to three. The Nooks outscored their GNAC opponents 20-7 in the fourth quarter.
And number one is this wild finish from day two of the Mt. McKinley Bank Holiday Classic. The host school, Monroe Catholic, drives down the court with time winding down in Overtime against Lathrop. A missed layup led to a mad scramble for the ball, but the Rams were able to collect the ball and pass it down the three point line until they find an open man. Gabe Silas then drills the three with only 5 seconds left to secure the 58-56 win for the Rams.
