I-5 for the week of 8/26-9/01

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - It's time to look at the top plays of the week in the I-5.
Starting off the countdown is West Valley receiver Sheridan Blasey, who hauls in a pass from Quarterback Tessa Lindberg. She sheds off a defender and heads eight yards into the endzone, diving and stretching out to cross the goal-line. Blasey has accounted for 7 Touchdowns this year for the Wolfpack Flag Football team.
Next up is North Pole Junior Olivia Berg, who delivers this perfectly placed kill in the second set of the Patriots game against Monroe Catholic. This one gets passed Monroe's back row and falls just short of the boundary to earn a point for the Pats.
In the Number three spot we have several different member of the West Valley Boy's Cross Country team. These runners were able to earn each of the top five finished at Friday's Jim Kavanaugh Invitational on the Salcha Ski Trails. Ari Endestad finished first in 16 minutes and 53 seconds. Jack Cater crossed the finish line about 30 seconds later while Alex Olson and Jack Winford both finished in 17 minutes and 34 seconds. Koen House rounded out the top five 16 seconds later.
We return to Volleyball for the #2 play, more specifically West Valley Senior Jozey Martellero. She first keeps the play alive with a diving save, but she also delivers the kill when the ball gets back to her. This was one of 11 kills that Martellero earned on Tuesday, which allowed the Wolfpack to sweep the Rams in three sets.
And at #1 we have North Pole Flag Football Quarterback Dakota Darby who calls her own Number at about the 13 yard line. She takes the ball down the hash marks, spins past three Lathrop defenders and then sprints 87 yards into the endzone. Her flag does fall off but since it wasn't removed by a Lathrop Defender the play was still alive. This incredibly long run was the only score of the game for North Pole.
