Hutchison baseball defeats Monroe Catholic

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Two of our Interior Baseball teams managed to sneak in a game before this winter storm hit.
The Monroe Catholic Rams and Hutchison Hawks squared off in Growden Park last night, with the Hawks walking away victorious, winning this Mid Alaska Conference contest 2-1.
Both teams were scoreless through the first four and a half innings until the Rams put a run on the board at the bottom of the fifth.
Hutch was then able to add their first run of the game at the top of the sixth and then one more in the top of the seventh to take the lead.
Three straight outs in the bottom of the seventh inning then secured the season opening win for Hutchison.
Landon Bicknell knocked in the game winning RBI for the Hawks while Isaac Roehl and Greyson Watkins both crossed home plate.
Roehl also had a great night pitching for the Hawks.
Roehl spent all seven innings on the mound, earning 7 strikeouts and only allowing three hits.
For Monroe, Pearson Clark was the leader on offense, going 2 for 3 at bat and scoring once.
Gabe Silas also pitched an entire game, striking out six.
We caught up with the Hawks after the game about this season-opening victory.
"It felt really good I just got up to the bag and thought 'I just gotta hit the ball and win the game for the team. First year is so far so good. I can't wait for the next four years. I just think we stick with what we're doing right now we're going to pull through and we might win state," said Bicknell-Long.
