FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Two droughts came to an end last night.
Not only did the Cleveland Browns win their first game since Christmas Eve 2016, but here in Fairbanks the Hutchison Volleyball team defeated an opponent they hadn't beaten in four years.
The Hawks defeated West Valley in a five-set thriller.
Hutch took the first set 25-21.
West Valley then rebounded to take a 25-17 win in the second set.
These two squads traded wins yet again with Hutch taking the third 25-18 and West Valley winning the fourth 27-25.
The final set saw West Valley hold a lead while only needing 5 points to win it.
Hutch got the ball back and never turned back from there.
Bri Majors served the next five points while Allyona Mandregan delivered the game winning kill.
For the Hawks, who are members of the 3A Aurora Conference, this is the first win over their 4A neighbors since September 23rd 2014, and the second in team history.
Madregan had a good day to say the least, leading the team in blocks with 12.
Majors earned 20 digs while Emily Wayfield led the team in assists with 26 and Jayda Russell was the kill leader with 8.
West Valley was led by Zoe Vehmeier and her 34 assists, while Jozey Martellero led the team in kills with 12.
