Golpanners finish pool play of the Grand Forks International

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Golpanners have finished pool play in the Grand Forks International Tournament in British Columbia, Canada.

After a strong start to the tourney with a pair of wins over the Houston Westchase Express and the Northwest Honkers, the Panners dropped their final two contests before heading to the money round tomorrow.

A heavy rain delay Friday pushed all of the tournament games back, making the remainder of pool play seven inning contests.

Alaska fell to the San Francisco Seals 2-0 Friday with the only Panner hits coming from Blake Porter and Ben McKay.

The Goldpanners were blanked again Saturday, dropping a 3-0 contest against the Everett Merchants.

Four Panners collected hits, including doubles from McKay and Connor Konishi.

Tanner Inouye pitched a complete game for the Panners, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, while striking out five batters.

Former Alaska Goldpanner Patrick Chung finished 3 for 3 on the day for the Merchants.

Seeding is still being determined for the money round of the Grand Forks International. The initial two wins by the Goldpanners guarantees them an opportunity for a piece of the $50,000 purse.
