Goldpanners come up just short in Tournament

The Alaska Goldpanners finished up yet another tournament down in British Columbia over the weekend.
They wrapped up pool play with games against the St. Albert Tigers and the Northwest Honkers.
The Goldpanners dominated against the Tigers and came away with a 12-6 victory.
Paul Kunst and Nick Ames led the Goldpanners to victory at bat.
Kunst went 4 for 6 at the plate with an RBI.
He also scored twice.
Ames went two for three at the plate and scored once himself.
He also brought home 4 RBIs.
Nick Sparks earned the win on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing six hits, only 2 earned runs, and striking out 2.
The Panners then moved on to Saturday's Pool game against the Northwest Honkers.
The Honkers came away with a 7-3 victory in the final Pool Play game, but the Panners' 3-1 record was good enough to earn them a spot in the Semifinals on Sunday morning against the Everett Merchants.
The Panners were able to defeat the Merchants 4-1.
The Panners jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and didn't surrender the lead through the entire game.
Nick Ames brought home the most runners in the contest.
He went 4 for 5 at the plate and batted in two scorers.
Tyler Heinrichs was the leading scorer for the Panners, he went 3 for 5 at the plate and scored twice.
He also earned one RBI. Michael Hobbs earned the Win on the mound for the Goldpanners.
He pitched 6 innings and allowed three hits and one run while striking out 7 batters.
The Victory punched their ticket into the championship game against the Seattle Studs.
Just like the Grand Forks tournament, the Studs were able to come out on top in a close championship contest.
The Studs jumped out to a 4-0 lead and were up 6-3 after 5 innings.
The Goldpanners would come heartbreakingly close to victory by scoring 2 runs in the top of the ninth inning, but were shut down and lost the title game 6-5.
For his efforts, Paul Kunst was named the best Defensive Player in this year's K-I-B-T.
So, The now 20-8 Goldpanners will finally return home this week with a game on Thursday in Growden Park against the Fairbanks All-Stars.
They will also be playing a softball double header against the Golden Heart All Stars on Friday.
