FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Goldpanners are finally back in town.
After a couple of successful tournaments in Canada and two games postponed due to smoke, the Panners returned to their home ball park to begin their series with the South Bay Saints Friday.
Newcomer Brandon Leitgeb shined in is Panner debut, going 2-3 with 2 RBI's in Alaska's 8 -5 victory over the Saints.
A slow start saw the Panners trailing 3-0 after the top of the first, but their bats got rolling as the game progressed.
Alaska managed to put up runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings, before opening the floodgates in the final frames.
The Goldpanners tacked on three runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to create enough separation for their 18th victory on the season.
Griffin McCormick and Aaron Kim each produced a pair of hits, with Kim generating two RBI's.
Derek Alumbaugh earned the win on the mound, allowing just one hit in five innings of work, while seating seven batters.
The Panners are hosting two double-headers this weekend to make up for the games canceled earlier this week. Sunday's double-header will begin at 3 p.m.
