Former West Valley Hockey player picked in USHL Draft

The United States Hockey League draft has been taking place over the past two days. Phase one on Monday saw a Player from here in Fairbanks get drafted, while phase two saw several members of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs get picked up.

William Renfrew was selected in the first phase, getting picked up in the 10th round by the Des Moines Buccaneers. Renfrew, a 15 year old forward, most recently played for the West Valley Wolfpack here in Fairbanks before taking his talents down to the Anchorage North Stars 14U team. Last year he played for the Little Caesars 15U team in Detroit. He will now be joining the USHL, which is the top Junior Hockey League sanctioned by USA Hockey.

In phase two, four Ice Dog players have been drafted so far. Luke Mobley was selected in the first round by the Muskegon Lumberjacks. The Lumberjacks also drafted Tanner Edwards in the fourth round while the Madison Capitals picked up Goaltender Mattias Sholl and Luke Ciolli was drafted in the eighth round by the Green Bay Gamblers. Those are all the picks so far in the USHL Draft. We will update this story once the draft concludes.
