Game two of the Midwest Division Finals was held on Saturday Night, and the Fairbanks Ice Dogs were able to take a two-game lead in this best of five series, defeating the Minnesota Magicians 6-2.
The Dogs got off to a hot start, outscoring the Magicians 3-0 in the first two periods.
Minnesota made it a two point game, but the Dogs were able to keep them at arms-length by scoring two more goals in the final frame.
Matt Koethe scored two goals to lead the Dogs in scoring while Jonny Sorenson, Luke Mobley, Tanner Edwards, and Brenden MacLaren all scored once.
Goaltender Mattias Sholl secured the win between the pipes, stopping 17 of the 19 shots fired his way.
This series will now be put on hold until next weekend down in Minnesota.
The Dogs will only need one win to secure their spot in the Robertson Cup Championships.
