FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The 2018 season didn't have an ideal start for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
After falling in their season opener to the Chippewa Steel by a score of 3-1, the Dogs fell again by a score of 3-2 in Saturday's game.
After a scoreless first period on Saturday, the Steel were able to score all three of their goals while the Ice Dogs were held to one in the middle frame.
The Dogs would score one more goal in the third period but it was too little too late.
Grant Ledford and Luke Cioli were able to light the lamp for the Ice Dogs, while Cioli, Parker Brown, Matt Koethe, and John Stampohar all finished with an assist.
Goaltender Riley Sims faced 22 shots and earned 19 saves.
The Ice Dogs will start the year out at 0-2 and will look to turn things around starting tomorrow in the NAHL Showcase Tournament in Blaine Minnesota.
The Dogs will play Shreveport tomorrow night, the Minnesota Wilderness on Thursday, the Johnstown Tomahawks on the 21st, and will end tournament play against the Minot Minotauros on September 22nd.
