Fairbanks Ice Dogs fall in NAHL Showcase opener

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Fairbanks Ice Dogs kicked off their stay in the NAHL Showcase Tournament in Blaine Minnesota.
The Dogs started tournament play against the reigning Robertson Cup Champion Shreveport Mudbugs.
This one went to a shootout, where the Mudbugs were able to secure a 4-3 victory.
Fairbanks put the first two goals up on the board, which were the only scores of the first period.
The reigning champions then added two goals in the second frame while holding the Dogs to 1, and outscored the Ice Dogs 1-0 in the third period to force overtime.
Both teams were held scoreless in the OT period so they went to a shootout.
Conor Witherspoon and Matt Stoia both lit the lamp for Shreveport while the Dogs were turned away in both of their attempts.
Ty Proffitt, Martin Jonsson, and Jax Murray all scored for the Ice Dogs while Nate Reid spent 65 minutes in goal, where he earned 29 saves.
This will bring the Dogs to 0-3 to start their year.
They will look for their first win as showcase play goes on.
The Dogs will continue the showcase tomorrow against the Minnesota Wilderness.
