Fairbanks Ice Dogs bury Johnstown to advance to Championship Game

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs are Robertson Cup bound. The Dogs defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks earlier this afternoon to win their best of three semi-final series. The Dogs took down the top seeded Tomahawks by a score of 6-3.

Fairbanks started this one off hot, pouring on four goals in the first period while holding Johnstown scoreless. The Dogs were then held scoreless in the middle frame while Johnstown scored three times, but it was too little, too late. The Dogs scored two unanswered goals in the third period to secure the victory. Tanner Edwards was the scoring leader in this elimination game, accounting for two Ice Dog goals while Matt Koethe, Brenden MacLaren, Jonny Sorenson, and Noah Wilson all scored once. Sorenson and "Downtown" Parker Brown both finished with two assists to lead the team in that category. Mattias Sholl stopped 27 out of the 30 shots he faced in his 60 minutes of work between the pipes to help the Ice Dogs advance to the title game.

The Dogs, who are 8-1 in playoff games this season, will be in action again this Tuesday May 14th when they play either Aberdeen or Amarillo in the Robertson Cup Championship. They will be looking to bring home the fourth Robertson Cup in team history. That game takes place at 4pm Alaska Time.
