FAIRBANKS, Alaska - After taking second place in the Aurora Conference in 2017, the Eielson Raven Football team was able to return to the top with a victory over the Monroe Catholic Rams on Saturday.
The Dirty Birds secured the conference title with a 49-13 win.
The Ravens were able to earn over 400 yards offensively, led by the 284 yards from Jaydenn Manibusen.
The Senior also scored three touchdowns.
Colin Donahue and Braden Grorud were also able to find the Endzone for the Ravens on offense.
Defensively, the Ravens finished the day with four interceptions, one from Grorud and one from Zolton Homley, but the leader was newcomer DeAndre Ford.
Ford, who was playing in his first High School game ever, earned two Interceptions, returning one 90 yards for a touchdown.
The Rams were able to get their two scores thanks to a run by Trae Puryear and a pass from Puryear to his classmate Isaac Garcia.
Despite the loss, it was a successful season for the Rams, who will end the year at 5-3 overall.
The Ravens will now improve to 6-1 overall and are the Aurora Conference Champions.
They will host the Ketchikan Kings in the State Semi-finals this Saturday at Buck Nystrom Field.
"I was just so happy when they said 'ok Zeb go out there. I was just like, 'Ok!' I'm just hoping to get a ring. That's all I'm hoping for really," said Ford.
"It's a good feeling to know that... Some other teams, they really didn't think that we would make it this far. So it's good to finally start turning some heads. I'm pretty confident we have the ability. It's just... we can't get cocky just because we're the champs. We have to keep grinding and keep on focusing on what we have to do," said Manibusen.
