Delta Huskies baseball team defeats Monroe Catholic in season opener

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Baseball season officially began last night down in Delta Junction.
The Delta Huskies hosted the Monroe Catholic Rams in a Mid Alaska Conference Contest. ​
Delta was victorious, rallying for a 4-2 win. ​
Monroe Catholic got out to a 2-0 lead very early on with runs in the top of the first inning. ​
After two scoreless innings, Delta got their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, before securing the win with three unanswered runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. ​
Justin Gerhard and Luke Schmidt were credited with the RBIs for Delta while Dustin Peterson led the team in scores, crossing home plate twice. ​
Kevin Vertz pitched four innings for Delta, striking out four batters while allowing four hits and two runs. ​
Dustin Peterson pitched a one-hitter in his three innings of relief. ​
Izak Lohrke and Aiden Krause secured the RBIs for Monroe Catholic. ​
The Rams were set to return home for tonight's game against West Valley at Growden Park but this morning's snowfall caused that game to be pushed back to a later date.
