Delta Baseball team continues perfect start with win over Hutch

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Delta Junction continues to be an Oasis for our Interior Baseball teams, it's the only playable field in the area after this latest winter storm.
The Delta Huskies hosted the Hutchison Hawks in a Mid Alaska Conference contest and continued their strong start to the season with an 11-1 win. ​
Delta scored early and often in this one, scoring at least two runs in every inning. ​
They scored three in the first, two in the second, four in the third, and two more in the fourth. ​
Delta then held the Hawks scoreless in the top of the fifth inning to bring an end to the game. ​
Omar Powers was the offensive leader for Delta. He went a perfect 2 for 2 at the plate with two RBIs. ​
He also scored twice. ​
Ryan Zarecki also brought in two runners and crossed home plate twice himself. ​
Kevin Vertz secured the win on the mound, pitching for four innings. ​
Vertz allowed four hits while striking out three Hawk Batters. ​
For Hutchison, Chris Luskeet hit the lone RBI, bringing Isaac Roehl home with a triple in the fourth inning. ​
This brings Hutch down to 1-1 to start the year, while Delta is sitting at a perfect 3-0 start in this yound season, with all wins coming against MAC Foes.
The future for these teams is now up in the air and all depends on weather.
Delta was set to play Monroe Catholic in Growden Park tomorrow but all games in town this week have been cancelled. ​
Hutchison will be playing down south in Homer this weekend.​
We have received word that Newby Field is looking to be cleared off for weekend action out in North Pole.
