Delta Baseball survives 13-11 shootout against North Pole

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Two Interior Baseball teams were in action out on Newby Field last night.
The Delta Huskies defeated the North Pole Patriots in a 13-11 shootout.
North Pole looked to be in control with a 9-2 lead after the first four innings. ​
However, Delta re-asserted themselves in dominant fashion, scoring 8 runs in the top of the fifth inning. ​
Justin Gerhart led the offensive efforts for the Huskies. ​
He went 2 for 4 at the plate and scored twice, while also bringing home three RBIs. ​
The Patriots were led by Ben Green, who went 2 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs. ​
Kevin Vertz pitched the first four innings for Delta while Omar Powers pitched two innings and Luke Schmidt had one. ​
Vertz finished with seven strikeouts while Powers threw two and Schmidt pitched one. ​
Delta will host another MAC opponent tonight when they play the West Valley Wolfpack while North Pole will play Hutchison tomorrow.
