The Ravens are coming into the season looking to make some headway in the Aurora Conference. The Ravens will be under first year Head Coach Odesha Hickmon.
“It's been really exciting. It's definitely a learning process,” said Coach Hickmon So I'm learning from the girls and the girls are learning from me. It's definitely exciting. I look forward to the rest of the season I really believe we'll have a successful season this year."
Eielson will have their work cut out for them facing Valdez, Galena, Hutchison, Monroe and Delta with only two spots from the conference to make the state tournament.
“All of our girls definitely have improved from the beginning of our off-season to now.” said Coach Hickmon.
The last time the Dirty Birds made the big dance it was back in 2008 when they took third with Alex Wood and Sharee Miller.
The Ravens start their season on December 20 on the road against the Lathrop Malemutes.
Eielson made it to state last season, but that was with a plethora of contributions from seniors who have moved on.
“We had a big changeover with seven seniors last year,” said Coach Ross. “Big change as far as size and age this year. It's been a fun exciting off-season this year. The willingness to step right in and the next man up.”
The Ravens will be under Head Coach Joe Ross who will look to replace players like DeAndre Ford and Brock Renson. The also said good-bye to Matthew Scarboro who is with the Alaska Nanooks.
“How 'we knew that they were in charge last year, but they're no longer here, so let me step up and be the man.',” said Coach Ross. “That's I what I really see, is just the willingness to step up and not be scared of the moment."
