The Huskies are under Head Coach Norm Cosgrove with a squad that is very young.
"It's gone fairly slow for the start this year,” said Coach Cosgrove. “We have a small number of girls, we had a couple girls hurt. They're not going to be able to play this year. We've got kind of a slow start but we've settled into a good routine. Pretty happy with the girls I have and looking forward to a good season."
Delta is looking rebuild in a tough Aurora Conference that also has Valdez, Monroe, Eielson, Hutch and Galena. The girl's team enters the season without any seniors on its roster, but have a crop of five juniors to help lead the team.
“We are not really tall, but we are extremely quick, aggressive, and I have got some girls that can go either way, left or right with the ball, which in high school athletics, that's a big thing." said Coach Cosgrove.
Their first varsity game will be January 10th, when they host Galena.
The Huskies fell in the Aurora Conference tournament last season, and return a good number of players who received significant varsity time last year, looking to make some noise in the conference.
“So it's pretty exciting thinking about the future and there's a lot of hope for a good season,” said Coach Magee. “This year's group, we have a mix we have four or five guys returning with significant time, you know, they had started some games, and we've got some young kids that have really improved.”
Under Head Coach Shannon Magee the Huskies are looking to make some noise in the Aurora Conference being led by seniors like Jason Montes.
"Oh man, it's crazy our team has gotten so much better from last year. We've really been slept on right now, but over the course of that three months we got in the summer, we've gotten so much better. I'm proud of them for that."
The Huskies open their season with a tip-off tournament against the Kodiak Bears.
