FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Another season getting underway Friday is American Legion Baseball.
The Post 30 Alaska Wild and the Post 11 Fairbanks 49ers represent the interior with Legion teams compiled of local high school players. Both teams hosted the South Anchorage Wolverines this weekend to ignite their season.
The Alaska Wild dropped their season opener 11-1 in a 5 inning contest Friday night.
The Wild put a run on the board in the first inning after Alex Garcia scored on a passed ball.
South Anchorage answered back in the second inning with 5 runs, which proved too much for the Wild to overcome.
Garcia collected the lone hit for the Wild in the contest, while Gavin Fischer struck out four batters in four innings of work.
Earlier this afternoon it was the 49ers turn to face those pesky Wolverines.
South Anchorage took the victory 10-6, but not without a fight from the 49ers.
Trailing big in the final inning, Post 11 tacked on four runs, but it was not enough to take down South Anchorage.
Isaac Roehl (Roll) scored two runs for the 49ers and collected an RBI, while also tossing three strikeouts in six innings on the mound.
The Wild had the day off today before facing the Wolverines again Sunday at 11 a.m. at Arco Field.
