FAIRBANKS, Alaska - There are three certainties in life, Death, Taxes, and the Alaska Nanooks winning the Governor's Cup.
The Nooks secured the Gov Cup yet again this year with a 3-2 win over the UAA Seawolves.
Saturday's game was much more exciting than the other three contests between these two schools, but the result remained the same.
The Nooks got on the board first with a goal from Kylar Hope in the first period and a Powerplay goal from Steven Jandric in the second.
That was Jandric's 14th point of the season, 12 of those have come from assists.
James LaDouce was the lone Nanook to score in the third period with an unassisted goal 3 minutes in.
UAA made it a 1 goal game 10 minutes later but it was too little too late.
Chad Staley, Justin Woods, Troy Van Tetering, and Tristan Thompson all earned assists for the Nooks while Goaltender Anton Martinsson earned 19 saves to secure the Win and the Cup.
Martinsson was named the WCHA Goaltender of the week for his efforts.
Due to NCAA Violations this is only recognized as UAF's fifth straight Governor's Cup, but UAA hasn't held the cup since 2009.
The Nooks have outscored the Seawolves 19-8 in the four games they have played this year.
They still have two more games to play against UAA up here at the Carlson Center on February 23rd and the 24th.
Head Coach Lance West says they will wait to celebrate winning the Gov Cup in front of their home fans.
